January - March 2024
We have been so busy working on the Blue Star Programme. The core pillar of learning 3 rd class focused on was Geographical. We decided on 8 EU countries to research. These included Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Latvia, Slovakia, Netherland and Hungary. We learned so much about these 8 countries. We have a lovely European Union project displayed in our classroom.
Our most enjoyable day this year so far was our French Day. The children all wore French clothes. We had lovely croissants, baguettes, cheese, butter and jam to savour and enjoy. We also surprised Mrs. Rice with a painting of her which hangs proudly in our room beside our French Day display. Thank you to Mrs. Browne and Mrs.McCormack for helping 3 rd class with this painting. A HUGE thank you to Mrs. O’Connor who baked all the French treats and prepared all the food for our French Day and basically pulled everything together for this amazing, fun filled experience. Mrs. Rice was very impressed with the huge effort 3 rd class made and complimented and thanked Mrs. O’Connor for her amazing work.
We had a great time during Seachtain Na Gaeilge 2024. The children made up their very own poem entitled “An t-Earrach”. This was our party piece when the whole school came together for assembly. The children dressed up in colourful St..Patrick’s Day clothing and a really fun day was had by all. Well being week was great fun in our school. The children dressed up in beautiful bright clothes. We also had a kindness competition in our classroom. Each child in the room performed many acts of kindness so well done to all.
September-December 2023
3rd class had such a busy term. The children have worked very hard and have had great fun along the way.
We had a very exciting visit to Lidl Farm in Newbridge where we learned how everyday produce gets from farm-to-fork.
In SESE we had great fun organising, classifying and grouping animals. We really enjoyed using our classification key to do this.
The children’s athletic skills were put to the test in TUS during November and December. We all thoroughly enjoyed this athletics programme.
We had super fun learning all about the Vikings and about Denmark – Land of the Vikings. The children were very interested in learning all about where the Vikings came from, who they were, their clothes, their houses, their food and Viking Dublin.
We had a wonderful experience baking with Mrs. Browne. Our scary apple pie turned out really well and tasted delicious. Thank you very much Mrs. Browne.
Our Christmas Carol in Golden Island raised €537. This was amazing to raise this amount of
money and this money will be spent on music and maths equipment. The children sang beautifully and represented our school so well.
Creative Clusters: We made and swapped gorgeous individual Christmas decorations with children in local schools and we all had a lot of fun making these decorations which were Christmas hats.
We also had a lovely evening in Drumraney Church at our Christmas carol service. The children should be very proud of themselves.
April 2022
2nd and 3rd class have been super busy this year and are working ever so hard.
We have lots of lovely Spring Art proudly displayed in our classroom. The children did a brilliant job on their butterflies and daffodils. Our classroom looks so colourful.
We have been learning all about the Vikings and we have a lovely display in our classroom entitled ‘We aarrgghh Vikings’ - the children did a brilliant job drawing their Vikings.
We had a wonderful day out when we travelled to Ballinahown to take on Ballinahown NS in a Gaelic match. We had 3 teams and all the children played mighty. Soon we are going to play Baylin NS - date has to be confirmed. We will continue to train hard and enjoy our GAA. On the same day we had a hot food party. The children enjoyed delicious hot food from the deli in Glasson.
Our classroom are currently taking part in the Picker Pals environmental programme. The children take turns bringing home our Picker Pals kit each day. We are doing a great job keeping our environment neat , tidy and litter free.
2nd class are currently busy practising for Our First Holy Confession. This is taking place in school on April 5th and Our First Holy Communion is on May 21st. These are very exciting times for our wonderful 2nd class.
To celebrate St.Patrick’s Day we had a big fry in the classroom. The children had sausages, rashers, beans, eggs, mushrooms, hash browns, toast, brown bread , scones tea and orange juice. We have to say a huge thank you to Mrs. Browne for organising all this. And also a huge thank you to Mrs. Cronolly for her delicious scones , ginger cake and fruit cake.
We are partaking in plenty of activities, which include Athletics in the AIT, Tag Rugby with Charlie; GAA training with Alan and soon our swimming will be starting. We are having so much fun and getting plenty of exercise.
On our wall we have a new chart - ‘Classroom Reward Chart for Our Fun Day Excursion’. When the children have accumulated 1000 points we are going to have a Fun Day out. At the moment we have 61 points.
We also have a colourful Me Fein display in our classroom. Each child has a lovely Gaeilge chart telling us all about themselves.
The children are currently working on the Stay Safe Programme. The children are enjoying this very important programme.

Miss Dooley’s 3rd class were very excited to get back to school to open their Kris Kindle presents!! We were delighted to come back to learn new things and also to play with our friends. We worked hard at home during the lockdown.
We are busy learning about fractions in Maths! They are tricky but we did lots of practical examples to help us!! We had great fun getting into equal groups using hoola hoops!
We began our 2nd Novel called ‘Brush a tale of two foxes’ written by Pierce Feiritear. We are really enjoying it and cannot wait to find out about all the adventures the foxes go on. We work in small groups predicting what will happen in each chapter!
We are exploring the theme of AnTeilifís in Gaeilge. We are practicing our reading every night and posting a clip on seesaw.
We are learning about the Vikings in History! We found it very interesting! We had great fun designing our own Longships. We also learned about the Battle of Clontarf and Brian Boru.
We also studied how boats and ships float! We did an interesting experiment to find out if an object will float more easily in salt water or fresh water. We used eggs and discovered that they float better in salt water!
We completed a music study on ‘Coldplay’. Our favourite song was Viva la Vida. We had great fun listening and responding to their different hits!
3rd class led the 5km walk for Westmeath GAA Moveathon Challenge on 25th March! We completed it in 43minutes! It was great fun!!
September 2020
Miss Dooley’s 3rd class are very excited to be back to school in their new classroom. We are all thrilled to be back to some normality after a very different summer break and a crazy few months. We are adjusting to our new normal and working very hard to keep safe. Children learned some fantastic life skills during the lockdown. Baking was one of the most popular activities in our room. September was a very busy month in 3rd class. We have learned all about Ireland, provinces, counties and our local area. We also spent time researching our family histories. It was great fun drawing our family tree. We learned all about the Stone Age. We did lots of fantastic art pieces and displayed some great work on our WOW wall! Finally we want to welcome Daniel back to our school; it is great to have you in our class!
