September - December 2023
The students in Croí agus Caoi class have been busy this first term. The school year began with some lovely music lessons from Dee Dee. We had so much fun, singing songs, using different musical instruments and we even had a little dance party.
We were also very busy in our SESE lessons. We learned about the history of Halloween and how other places around the world celebrate this festival. We learned about the different types of homes there are around the world. We also learned about how electricity works and about the rooms in our home.
As if we weren’t busy enough, we have been cooking up a storm in the kitchen. We learned the skill of pouring and cutting. We prepared our own breakfast by making toast, cereal and had a sneaky cup of hot chocolate too, shhh.
We also had a wonderful day out in the Planet in Athlone. It was so much fun. We got to play in the soft play area with slippery slides, rope bridges, pulleys and a huge ball pool. It’s safe to say we were all tired after.
We finally finished the school year with some exciting arts lessons. We had fun painting some reindeers, designing Christmas decorations and writing our own Christmas cards.
It has been a wonderful start to the new school year and we are all looking forward to all the excitement term 2 has to offer.
April 2022
We enjoyed a very busy term where we learned all about the signs of Spring and the lifecycles of the frog, butterfly and chick. In January, a speaker from The Dogs Trust visited our class to show us how to look after our pet dogs. We loved playing word bingo and decorating our classroom with our amazing art. We really enjoyed our class trip to Planet Entertainment in Athlone in February. It was lots of fun jumping in the ball pit, playing in the maze and going down the slides. We celebrated Shrove Tuesday by making yummy pancakes and we even flipped a few for fun! We all participated in athletics in AIT and loved sprinting, jumping hurdles and jumping into the sand. On World Book Day, we invited First Class to our classroom to enjoy story-time with us. We listened to The World Book Day Monster and made new friends. We are very proud of Ethan and Liam who made their First Confession in April. Happy Easter from everyone in Croí agus Caoi!
April 2021
The boys of Mrs O Donohoe’s class were delighted to return to the school routine following the long absence. Smiling faces still greet us from the bus each morning. Each boy settled back almost immediately. Of course the transition was made a lot easier when they saw their fabulous outdoor play area. Sure they can’t get the work finished quickly enough so that they can get outside for a movement break, it’s a wonderful asset to the classroom. Thankfully September and October weather was good enough to allow us to have outdoor picnic lunches while waving at all the passing lorries and tractors. Each dry day the boys enjoyed a walk down the hill past Morans to collect conkers and blackberries. Not too many conkers escaped our boys this year.
We are all looking forward to the days when we can resume our normal social outing activities. But for now all of us are happy to be safe and well and at school!
